Wrecclesham Tennis Club entered a total of ten ladies, mens and mixed teams in the Aldershot and District Winter League, providing  players of all abilities the opportunity to play competitively.  Guided by the ace pairing of Club stalwarts Diane Pettit and Kathy Norkett (seen standing in the centre of the photo), the Ladies A team finished top of Division 1 and will be promoted to the Premier Division for next winter.  The Ladies B team, ably led by Louise Cousins, the new Club Treasurer and the Ladies Club Captain, still has one match to play but looks likely to finish the season in second place in Division 2B.  All three men’s teams were promoted last year, but Men’s Captain Ian Sharpe has conceded that despite a mixture of wily, experienced players and young guns, it appears to have been a step too far for the A and B team and both face the prospect of relegation this season.  The mixed A has had a successful season, with prospects of promotion.

All teams have enjoyed their tennis over the Winter despite some challenging weather conditions, and now, with the summer league season looming, there is an Open Day for prospective new members of all ages and abilities, on 3rd April; the year round Club sessions continue on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons for all players and a new Ladies social morning is starting up on the first Friday of the month from 9.30, for ladies of all abilities.  So, plenty of reasons to dig your tennis racquet out of the bottom of the cupboard early this year.  Have a look at the website, www.wreccleshamtennis.org.uk or contact Linda Taylor on 01252 714111 and membership@wreccleshamtennis.org.uk

Wrecclesham Tennis Club held their Annual Ladies Charity Tournament on Sunday, 21 August, 2011. 

Twenty ladies participated and raised £100 in aid of MacMillan Cancer Care.  It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon and the tournament was a friendly but competitive event.  The winning pair was Kathy Norkett and Linda Taylor who defeated Maralyn Sharpe and Pippa Gray in the final.
